However, the range of its clients has expanded to include local authorities, government organs, international and public organizations, rural NGOs, dehkan (farmers) households, and Jamoat support centers. FSCI is still actively involved in the area of civic society strengthening. The launch of the country’s first Information Consulting Center in 1996, aimed to support the development and strengthening of the republic’s new non-governmental (third) sector, served as a strong incentive for the growth of public social and environmental organizations in Tajikistan. The main mission of FSCI is to support the development of the civic sector of the republic through the implementation of various ecological initiatives targeted towards environment protection, sustainable development, creation and realization of natural resources management.FSCI began its activities with the most critical challenge of that time: a creation of civil society in the republic. ![]() FSCI received a legal status on 1 June 1995. Public ecological organization of the Republic of Tajikistan «Foundation to Support Civil Initiatives» (FSCI, Dastgirie-Center) was established by a group of enthusiasts in early 1995, during a difficult period of civil uprisings.
